I was fortunate to receive this novel as an Advance Reader Copy, in exchange for an objective review.

If you like mystery, intrigue, snappy dialogue and great characters, then this series is for you!!

Special Agents Nicholas Drummond and Michaela ‘Mike’ Caine are back again in the newest installment of ‘a Brit in the FBI’ series.

A clandestine meeting, and the seemingly unrelated deaths of various powerful politicians are at the heart of the next adventure of the Covert Eyes team. Then, another death occurs and a passer-by spots a drone on the scene of the incident, which raises suspicions of the police. At the same time, a powerful virus is found to have infected the computers of intelligence agencies everywhere, making secure communications difficulty.

Meanwhile, Dr. Isabella Marin is busily working on revealing the secrets of an old manuscript – one that no cipher has ever been able to interpret – and is believed to be written via cryptophasia – the secret language between twins. But Dr. Marin has a few secrets of her own.

As the investigation into the mysterious deaths deepens, drones are suspected to be carrying the answers – but who is unleashing them? And why?

This novel carries on at a breakneck pace, as answers lead to more questions, and storylines merge, secrets are revealed, and a man seeks revenge, leading to a breathtaking climax! I could not put this book down! As always, I love the cameo appearances of Savich & Sherlock too!! Fantastic read!! Can’t wait for more from both these authors!!

Set in Great Britain, this novel stars former detective turned P.I. Tyrone Swift, who is asked by a friend to investigate the death of Kim Woodville, a young woman who reportedly drowned in a lake on her family’s property. The police had ruled it accidental, as the victim had a history of epilepsy, and it was presumed a seizure had caused her to drown. However, Kim was deathly afraid of water. As a child, her mother had tried to drown her, and she’d had a great fear of water since then. Intrigued, Tyrone accepts the case.

As he delves into the case and begins to explore Kim’s history, he realizes that there she was a complex individual. Raised in a less than loving environment after her mother was imprisoned, Kim was reportedly revered by some, hated by others, and Tyrone gets conflicting views on the type of person she really was. Even her own mother appears disinterested and only wants to gain from providing information.

We also learn some of Ty’s back story as well, and meet his disabled daughter, with whom has seems to have a wonderful relationship!

As the case continues, there is another death and more twists and suspenseful events that I did not see coming, and kept me guessing right up till the end! I’d like to say more, but even eluding to things would be a giveaway and take away from the novel.

I very much enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the earlier Tyrone Swift novels and will be waiting anxiously for more!!.

My initial thought when beginning to read this is that it read more like an anthology or collection of short stories. Because it flowed differently than the traditional novel, I struggled a bit to identify key characters in various parts of the stories or chapters, but I eventually found my stride. Still not my preferred style though, but that’s me, and has nothing to do with the context of he book.

Definitely real life, right down to the verbiage, perceptions of female officers and the ‘inside’ politics of law enforcement. This authors storytelling is very colorful, and I’d love to see a suspense novel from him at some point. .

Recommend for law enforcement and those wishing to join law enforcement!
