I found this author pair quite by accident using one of the discount book sites, most like Bookbub or Bookperks. I’ll always try out a new mystery book/author, especially when it’s discounted. I honestly have gained some really good reads that I might have never known about if not for these sites. Check out Bookbub – just add your reading preferences, and they’ll send you a list of discounted books every day. Some are fledgling authors looking for readers, some are NYT Bestsellers just being discounted for the day…never know what you’ll find!!
Killing Season – Vargas & McBain
There’s nothing I like better than a good mystery/police procedural and these two deliver in spades. I discovered these writers accidently on one of the discounted e-books websites, and I can say that I am now a big fan and will continue to follow this series as the stories are published. The main character in these books is Violet Darger, fledgling profiler for the FBI. In this book, Violet is called to consult on two separate shooting sprees that have left multiple victims dead, a city on the verge of panic, and no way of guessing what the shooters next target will be. Violets job is to profile the perpetrator, and get into his head to find a way to stop him. But how do you stop a killer you can’t see, and who leaves no evidence? The twists and turns, and gritty reality throughout this book had me turning pages through the night. Un-put-downable! I cannot wait for this series to grow!
Dead End Girl – Vargas & McBain
There’s nothing I like better than a good mystery/police procedural and these two deliver in spades. I discovered these writers accidently on one of the discounted e-books websites, and I can say that I am now a huge fan and will continue to follow this series as the stories are published. Violet Darger is a newly minted FBI profiler who has just been assigned to her first case; to assist a senior profiler (Loshak) on a serial murder case in small town Ohio. The story is a page turner from the start, the character development is superb – you really get to know Violet as a person as well as an FBI profiler – and the blood, gore and richly graphic details are there for those who enjoy the nitty-gritty murder mysteries (as I do!). Mystery/police procedural fiction at it’s best! If you love Sandford, Slaughter, Kava, Stelljes and Deaver, you’ll LOVE Vargas & McBain!!
Yes, I utilized the same verbiage in parts of these reviews, but they were posted separately elsewhere – they’re only together here on my blog. Still learning!! 🙂
